The assignment
For this assignment, I had to create my dream house in Sketchup. It was a very free assignment so I could let my imagination run wild. There are always two things that I think make a space very beautiful, and those are big and lots of windows and high ceilings. This creates a very spacious effect and lots of natural light. So I added both of these to my dream home as well.
The first step was a mood board (2D), to already get an idea of what you would like to make approximately. I focused mainly on the kitchen and living room area and looked up a lot of inspiration and images.
What is sketchup?
SketchUp is a computer program for drawing in 3D. The program was developed in the late twentieth century to design 3D objects more easily than the 3D programs of the time, which often required a course to operate the complicated software. Some of its features allow designers to "play" with their designs, something impossible with CAD programs. It is possible to draw buildings using SketchUp and display these buildings in Google Earth as three-dimensional objects

I purposely chose a schematic two-dimensional top view of my floor plan, as it comes across most clearly. For this assignment there were no measurements, because you were free to create whatever you wanted. However, it had to be realistic and the dimensions were important when you finished the design.
I started sketchup with minimal knowledge of the program, I did this on purpose, to see what I can already do and how quickly I learn to understand it. I quickly got the basics but for some smaller things I started taking a course on Linkdin learing. After getting my certificate I continued designing and found it very interesting and fun to do. i didn't really know when to stop .
As for the shape of the house, I wanted it to be abstract, modern and cubist, which gives a nice and clean result but still playful and free. And lots of light of course.
In terms of interior design I went mainly for contrast, by which I mean that the larger pieces of furniture (kitchen, sofa, table, cabinets etc) would be in white and wooden tones and then a few design pieces in very bright colors. I think this then totally stands out. Design for me is something that really completes my dream home. Statement furniture is interesting to look at and in short is just really beautiful.
